Nice. I try to post something about time balls on Facebook every year when New Year's Eve rolls around. Hard to explain the point of it today in a world that has had accurate, accessible time for many decades. There was a time ball in operation for about thirty years at Mystic Seaport, atop the building next door to the planetarium. I found a photo of it just now in an article from about twenty years ago, below. It's long gone.
I noticed the "Curator of Time", Emily Akkermans, was mentioned in the article. She attended my "Celestial Navigation in the Age of Sail" workshop and one of my special "Lunars" seminars at Mystic Seaport back in the Fall of 2016.
