Fred-
\When I was just getting started learniung how to use a sextant, I found it helpful sometimes to mount my Davis plastic sextant on a tripod. So I drilled a small hole and glued a 1/4-20 T-nut into the handle. (The camera screw on a tripod is invariably a 1/4-20 thread) This is easy enough to do on an inexpensive plastic sextant, although I might think twice to do it on a $2000 metal one. (Then again, I would probably go ahead and do it anyway).
