Well, it does tell you the required format right above the field you're filling out. Also, if you delete whatever is in the field, the format is shown inside as well.
What I find strange is that you were even able to enter a date like that. When I tried it, a pop-up calendar appeared allowing me to click on the desired date. And if I try to enter the day first, any number over twelve automatically defaults back to twelve.
I'm not sure I'd call this an error - at least on the part of the USNO - since that's the way we write the date in the U.S. Seems like maybe more of a glitch on your end. Unless they fixed it between your post and this one. Or am I missing something?
