I thought about including Chichester but left him out. There’s a column of thought that suggests he used a ‘box sextant’ rather than a ‘mariner’s sextant’. I’m ambivalent to the matter. Sometimes I read his words as ‘box sextant’ and sometimes as ‘sextant box’. DaveP
