A friend, Alex Hills, captured this image from his home in Palmer, Alaska, about 55 miles north of Anchorage.
He used a Canon Rebel XT DSLR and a 400mm lens. Given my own failures trying to capture nighttime images with my own Canon DSLR's need for multi-second exposures to capture even the brightest moon, I suspect he used a tripod and cable release.
