Success!
I had given up looking for venus in daylight. Tonight there is a clear sky and I received an unprompted message from my daughter and son-in-law that they could see venus near the moon. I asked if they meant at night and they replied now! A photo indicated that they observed it while playing with the grandchldred and a hose - a nice warm day.
I quickly found venus with binoculars and shortly after with the naked eye. As Frank says once found it is easy to find providing you have a reference. In this case the reference was a line through the horns of the moon.
