Item one looks as if there are similarities with the Appleyard Course & Distance Indicator designed by Rollo Appleyard in 1917 See: https://NavList.net/m2.aspx/Appleyard-Course-Distance-Computer-DavidPike-mar-2019-g44592 , which I’ve modelled and am writing a paper about at the moment (if I can ever get on with it). One thing I’ve found so far is that using the Appleyard requires considerably more imagination than using the Dalton (see photo), and your device looks like it needs considerably more imagination to use than even the Appleyard.
