Your first item might have worked as per the attached photo. I've done it for the case of: Find heading and groundspeed if the TAS is 90, the required track is 360, and the wind velocity is 270/30. As I said earlier, between 1903 and 1920 air navigation was in its infancy. Devices of the period required considerable imagination. It would be another 15 years or so before more easily understood devices like the Dalton became available. DaveP
