Does anyone have updated info on the status of the tropical weather announcements on WWV? There are scattered reports that they were supposed to be shut down at the end of last month. David Burch posted something on Facebook today saying that the service would be shut down in January. I can't find any references to this one way or the other on the NIST website for WWV, but I easily could have missed it. Has anyone listened at 8 or 9 minutes after the hour recently? It used to start with "North Atlantic weather, west of three-five west...". Are they shutting down the tropical weather updates? I have long considered these obsolete, but naturally there are small markets for almost any legacy service.
Especially relevant would be news from actual authorities at NIST/WWV or real journalists who have done the research. Thanks!
