Dear Brad,
I did try this and noticed that it only is capable to discover the (big enough) side error. Even if the side error is as small as IE - it too is not that easy to observe. I calculate the IE by limb-to-limb Sun's SD measurement though.
May be this means I'm not as skilled or my sight is aging - or, - my sextants are too old and worn...
The only way for me to eliminate both the side error and IE - is by star+"obturator" trick.
