What precision is required in cel nav?

In 1957, when I was in the USAF & went through "Navigation Training For Pilots", I recall to receive a passing grade, our three body star fixes has to be within 5 N Mi of the aircraft's true position. The sight reduction method we used was HO 249 Vol. I and the Air Almanac.
