Obviously Frank is the expert here and my practical experience is limited but I have both the Davis I have had for many years and a very nice Tamaya bought on ebay. Well you have to be careful on ebay but often they come from ship breakers in India and mine was basically unused. Thing about the Tamaya is its pretty heavy to use, and I understand the Astra is lighter. Davis might be a bit less accurate but with your arm not getting tired you can take more sights and average them, On Wed, 6 Feb 2019 at 07:03, Frank Reedwrote: > > Given what you have said, buy an Astra IIIB, lightly-used on ebay. You can expect to pay about $300, maybe a little less. Or you could stay smart and stick with the Davis plastic sextant that has worked so well for you. You do not need a more expensive sextant to circumnavigate the globe. Why not buy another Davis sextant for a third of the price and store it away as a pristine backup? > > Frank Reed > >
