    Hmm.  I should point out that this device has only two mirrors, not optical quality, that cannot reflect into the scope unless the scope is pointed directly up.  Dows anyone know of a contemporary manufacturer that has picked up producing equitorial sextants?  The only markings I see are on the mirror covers.  44A9555 METLGLAS.  The number corresponds with a US military part for a "mirror assembly".  My guess would be WWII vintage.  Any other thoughts?  I sent an email to the Smithsonian, who have an equatorial sextant in collection.  Maybe they will respond.
