Will Satellite debris disrupt the Earth's magnetic field?

Interesting paper just out exploring whether the metallic dust shed by disintegrating satellite debris might create a new conductive layer that would mess with the  Earth's magnetic field.

As an amateur radio operator, my first thought was that it might make for some nice HF propagation. Then the armchair navigator in me caused me to wonder how it might affect terrestrial navigation. ;-)
