Hi John,
Yes, very interesting. I had no problem creating an error correction chart for my watch(s) and my ship's clock. I even documented the process in a blog post (http://www.unlikelyboatbuilder.com/2020/04/a-chronometer-for-celestial-navigation.html). But to repeat, what good is all that work if all the watches die along with the rest of the electronics?
I have not been able to find any actual experience documented on the Internet of watches being fried in lightning strikes. Perhaps they are a trivial casualty, compared to losing everything else, or maybe nobody wears watches any more?
