After completing customs and immigration we arrived at the Fouad Yacht Club
at 16:30ZT, 07/06/1996. Yachts in transit are permitted a 24 hour layover in
Port Said without applying for Tourists Visas. Our shipping agent has made
arrangements for our supplies and documents. We top off fuel and water. And
we are cleared by customs to the port of Suez. We are not permitted to land
in Egypt until our arrival at Suez (29d 57.5'N  32d 02.5'E).

Our departure is sheduled for the next morning. A pilot is required on all
vessels transiting through the canal. Our Pilot arrives at 11:45:00ZT.
Yachts are not permitted to transit the canal at night. Sailing in the
canal is not permitted. Maximum speed in the Suez Vanal is 9 Kts.
The calculated distance to Suez (29d 57.5'N  32d 02.5'E) is 87.5 miles. 

1)  What is the Date and Zone Time(ZT) of Sunset(SS) at Suez on
    our departure day?

Using the formula SQRT LWL x 1.35 for the maximum speed of Silicon Sea
under power. 

2)  What is our Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) at Suez to the neraest
    minute?
    Is it possiable to arrive at Suez before night fall?

Vessels not able to make a canal transit in one day are required
to stop overnight at Ismailia (30d 36.5'N  32 19.5'E) on the NW
corner of Lake Timsah. Crews are allowed use of the yacht club
but must remain on the premises. It is 42 miles from Port Said to
Ismailia.

3)  What is our ETA at Ismailia?

On arrival at the Ismailia Yacht Club our Pilot departs informing
us that he will return at dawn.

4)  What is the time of Morning Civil Twlight (MCT) at Ismailia?

Our Pilot arrives and we depart Ismailia at O4:35ZT. We enter the canal
behind a tanker. Our speed is still maximum under power.

5)  What is our ETA at Suez to the nearest minute?

We are in line in the canal between a tanker and a container ship.
At 07:40 speed in the canal drops to 5 Kts, the minimum speed permitted
in the Suez Canal.

6)  How many miles had we traveled at the time of the speed
    reduction?

7)  What is the ZT of our revised ETA st Suez?

At maximum speed Silicon Sea uses .450 gal per hour. At 5 Kts it uses
.250 gallons of fuel per hour.

8)  What was the total fuel consumed, in gallons(Imp.) to the nearest
    tenth of a gal., on our arrival at The Suez Yacht Club?
