Thanks for posting your log. This is exactly what I wanted to understand when I joined navlist. As I read your log, at each step I thought "I know what you are doing". I thought that given your base data I could replicate what you have done!
It seems to me that using a calculater rather than bulky 249 or 229 is the way to go. The cos formula for altitude is easy to remember but I must learn the azimuth formula. I admit that that is where I cheat. I get down my copy of Norie and us the ABC tables. The ABC tables must be the simplest and easiest to use tables ever devised. But Norie is bulky compared with a calculator.
I enjoy reading messages from real navigators - I am armchair only.
