Ok, John, you wrote: "My pet peeve is the term "Assumed Position" in the St, Hilaire sight reduction. " I've listened to you on this, and re-read what you're saying, but in the end, I just don't think that there's much of anything to worry about here. There's nothing that's literally wrong about the term "assumed position" and I have never encountered a navigation student who found it confusing. I'm not saying there aren't any though! Weird terminology is a real problem for navigation education from "dip" to "horizontal parallax" to "index mirror" for that matter (I was thinking about that one just today -- wouldn't it be better to call it the "rotating mirror"? ...too late, it's already got a name), so I can imagine a circumstance where a student MIGHT stumble over the term "assumed position". I haven't seen it happen yet. -FER --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ NavList message boards: www.fer3.com/arc Or post by email to: NavList@fer3.com To , email NavList+@fer3.com -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
