I have Kollsman periscopic sextants and MA-1s and MA-2s and I don't see how you could do that conversion without access to the parts. It would be much easier to find an MA-1 on ebay. Place it on your ebay wish list and just wait. I paid about 200 bucks for my MA -1 and MA-2..

I have received today my (4th) sextant, and it is an A-7 bought on Ebay.

Completely unrelated, if any body has converted a Kollsman periscopic 28450 sextant to become a (non-periscopic) Kollsman MA-1, I would be most interested to know of your experience.
