Antoine's suggestion that pdf files are better than jpeg files is simply wrong. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should anyone follow this suggestion. Under no cirmstances should anyone be "converting" image files to "pdf format". That is not even a correct description of the process. The pdf format is a container for complex documents involving images, text, and other data. It's an excellent format for delivering a complex presentation especially involving multple "pages" or distinct blocks of information. But it has nothing to do with image quality.

There are three standard image formats that continue to be widely used online: jpg/jpeg, png, and gif. The JPEG format is excellent for photos and other images with photo-like quality (those with a great many colors, continuous gradation of shades, and so on). The PNG and GIF formats are preferred for diagrams and similar images (with relatively fewer colors, sharp-edged transitions from one color to another, text within the image). Any of these images can be included in a PDF file but there is no reason to simply "wrap" a single image or a simple group of images in a PDF. It makes the resulting file much larger, and it does not enhance quality in any way. It is incapable of enhancing quality.

Antoine, please do not take any offense. But there is no ambiguity on this.
