Re: AFM 64-5/ Raft book question

    Thank you.

I have the 1969 version of AFM 64-5 and AFR 64-4 (several versions).

My curiosity runs more towards a comparison of Gatty's Harp to the "sextant" and meridian transit formula in the AFM.

The Nomogram in the AFM works only if you know the length of the day accurately (In my experience from using an online resource to get the length of day in my home town) and then only as you said not at certain times of the year. It was accurate then -- between 42dN and 42.5dN when the real latitude was 42.3dN.

I doubt that unless you had an unobstructed view of sunrise, LAN, and sunset that this nomogram would be useful in real life.
