Peter F, of the "EP" you wrote: "in practice many people adopt a modified DR position without bothering about the distinction between the terms." Also, historically, there was no EP. The position "by account" which is close to what we would call a "DR" was usually corrected by estimate for currents etc. And you wrote to John: "I suggest that you are only inviting the confusion you complain in advance about by adopting AP as a generic term to cover DR, EP and AP." He's not the only one who thinks of it that way. But I think we're narrowing down on the source of the potential confusion here. Just as some people mean (and especially used to mean) EP when they said DR (by narrow modern definitions of EP and DR position), so there are also people who apply the term AP to *any* chosen starting "reference point" for the St. Hilaire intercept method. And that would explain, I think, why John sees a confusion of terminology... maybe?! -FER --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ NavList message boards: www.fer3.com/arc Or post by email to: NavList@fer3.com To , email NavList+@fer3.com -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
