Hi Jared - I envy you having an early Accutron watch (I lusted for one!)
but I am almost certain you are wrong about the lack of a quartz crystal in
yours-certainly many, if not all of them had one. I believe the tuning
fork helped provide the motive energy (or frequency) for a stepper motor to
drive the works. But the tuning fork was slaved to a crystal-controlled
oscillator, operating near 32khz (almost said kilocycle, betraying my age...).
