Well, it's always worth a try before paying extortionate prices.  I'm going to have to try the 350cS oil that came.  I suspect that in a GNSS World few plot 3PL visual fixes any more, so most hand-bearing compasses are used for collision avoidance, checking for anchor dragging, or filling up an empty space on your cabin bulkhead.   If the big Plastimo ends up overdamped, I suspect that slow centring and hang-off error might be a problem in a multi-threat situation.  I've an old leaky E2 compass I liberated  a couple of decades ago, which has tasted most liquids in it's life, so I'll probably try the 350cS in that first.  The big Plastimo has two relatively long rod magnets, so it might be OK.  On the other hand, it has quite a wide disc, so it might be worse. We'll have to see.  I'll also have my pocket Plastimo Iris 50 and a Silva 70UN onboard, which seem to last for ever, so the big Plastimo might remain on the the cabin wall.  If all else fails, I could also buy a second-hand treadmill that needs lubricating.  I've always wanted one.
