Never? Well, hardly ever. The Dane's published the "special" ephemeris data needed for the method from 1834-1837. The UK agreed to purchase some number of these volumes to try them out. As you indicate, there was not an overwhelming demand.

The references (all in German) are online. Took quite some digging (at least for me) to find them. The journal article was published in three parts. I got to these through the excellent Harvard/ADS service:

The text book is in two volumes. The article of interest in at the end of the second volume. Both volumes are on Google books. (Google's catalog/index/search leaves MUCH to be desired. Drives me crazy at times when I can't find my way back to a book I know is there!) (try hathitrust instead)

It's a better index of Google books than Google's!

I'd welcome a PM from anyone else interested. (Or anyone fluent in 19th century technical German)

Despite the fact that it was never put into practice, I would certainly be interested in seeing it. Have you found a copy of the article(s) online anywhere?
