We went to sea for 4 days in the past week. Among the Bonus
Exotica shots:
Venus at upper transit during the daylight
3-body Daylight fix at moon upper transit crossed with a sunline and a
Venus LOP
Upper transits of Acrux, and Gacrux
Ex meridians of the moon and star Almak
Sunset fix (Sun LL on the visible horizon crossed with Jupiter and the
moon)
Daylight LOP by Jupiter (1st time ever!)
LOP's and Azimuths of Mercury
Position by circles of equal altitude by the moon crossed with a sunline
(Ho was 88+ degrees)
I also shot the more mundane star fixes, various Azimuths, and sunlines
(including LAN).
A much more enjoyable outing than December when I was skunked except for an
azimuth or two.
We also swung the ship for the deviation table. We did it "correctly"
for the first time in years because the Captain abdicated the conn to the junior
mates and me. Imagine actually steadying up on a course to compare the two
compasses!
