Sadly, this deletion of material may be more a product of the American legal system, where every bad event brings on a flock of lawsuits, rather than a true attempt to hide the material from the general public.  As a friend of mine whose ancestry includes four generations of lawyers puts it, there is no room in modern American law for "misadventure" (or, in non-legalese, "shit happens").   Instead, there must always be someone to blame, even if they exercised their best judgement and things simply didn't work out as any reasonable person might expect.   Again, not saying that the Bounty's skipper exercised good judgement, but I feel very certain that the Bounty's lawyers demanded that all comments about the event be taken down.

It seems that the facebook page for HMS Bounty had detailed exchange between the captain and the concerned public about the reasons for setting out on the 25th. That has been expunged

It seems the website similarly had a lot of detail about the reasoning for heading out on the 25th. That has been expunged.

Even the news record of Hurricane Sandy for the port of New London on their website is not available.

It would appear that a forensic removal of all evidential material has taken place.

Anybody know how to find out what time HMS Bounty left New London on the 25th of October?

    Thanks

    Geoffrey
