DB --"-divided into 4 divisions" NG----"Three actually" I am sorry Dale, I was bit slow on the uptake, the three sub-points of course divide the point into 4 parts. As a side cultural issue, it is interesting to note that even in these days of expressing bearings in degrees how many of our phrases and actions are still in points, Russels's comments about nav-lights for example (except for seaplanes) and 'West', 'South-East' and so on are in common day to day use. Cars with compasses generally give the read-out in points although usually just to nearest cardinal or quadrantal. The older skippers will still say 'bring her off the wind a couple of points' when a more accurate instruction id not necessary. NG
