Just so's you know, this problem ONLY affects the Google Groups web interface 
page. If you view the message in the archive here:

http://www.fer3.com/arc/m2.aspx?i=107414

you will see that the subject has been edited (by me) to match your follow-up. 
There's no way to do that through the G.G. web interface. Also note that 
archive at fer3.com preserves the message numbers which are hidden on the 
G.G. page. The G.G. "archive" is really designed more for immediate viewing 
of messages that are current or relatively recent. Old messages (including 
messages of lasting importance like your account of this technique) are 
rather difficult to find and take a long time to load. So if you're going to 
direct people to read these messages, you may want to include the address 
above, at least as a back-up.
