I have linked the promised High Latitude Supplement from Burton's Nautical Tables. As most books of this type include some mathematical notes on the tables, I have included herein those relevant notes.

I suspect that the Ex-meridian table in the supplement will be quite useless without parts II and III, which is found in the standard edition of Burton. If requested, I can scan this in.

For the ABC table in the supplement, this only covers latitudes from 60 to 82 degrees. The standard edition of Burton (as well as some other tomes, like Lecky's Wrinkles) covers latitudes from 0 to 60. Lecky's Wrinkles is available in Google Books. If requested, I can scan in the standard portion of the ABC tables from Burton.

In searching the entire archive of the NavList, it appears as if we have spent no time in review of this table. There are some passing references to it by one Mr. John Brown. I suspect that is you John and that indeed you have actually used these tables, albeit some time ago. Fantastic! In your ringing positive review of these tables, you have taken up the side of defender and advocate. I'd like to give these tables a fair shake. By the evidence directly at hand, they were in use for more than 100 years (1846 through your apparent use in the 1960's).

Since we have before us the High Latitude ABC Tables, would you kindly John illustrate by example the uses of the table. I will place you directly at McMurdo Station S 77.85 E 166.66, well within the span of the presented table. Your sledge has a sledge-o-meter, such that you can tell track over ground with perfect resolution, so there need be no fudge for estimating course made good. If you need any other instruments, naturally, the 'Society' has graciously provided the very best. You have only to pull it out of its container.
