Mention of a  single transistor regenerative receiver brings back  memories. It must havs been 1970 or earlier that I  listened to the aircraft and police vhf bands on such a device. The audio stage was an early intergated circuit purhased mounted on a  printed crcuit board. The rf/demodulation stages were one transitor and a few components. Most important was the coil - careful adjustment  selected the frequency.

Just by chance are you using  "Transistor  Circuit Manual No 1" published by Bernards Radio Manuals? The preface was written by Clive Sinclair. I have the booklet in front of me as I write. The transistors were OC71s.
