In my naive innocence, I have taken bubble sextants, marine sextants
and theodolites as carry-on luggage on flights within the UK, to
several countries in Europe, to Egypt and South Africa and to the
United States. I never had any problems. Once the scanner operatives
were convinced that it was not a bomb, they quickly lost interest.

Ken's idea of carrying a published description of the instrument,
with a picture, is a good one. I will definitely do that in future.
