Greg, 1. It seems that the best box for sextant transportation is the bomb-proof watertight plastic box sold be Celestaire. (I've seen it: Bill uses one). 2. > No GPS :( What is your back-up then ? :) I said that I OWN no GPS. (Neither I own a boat:-( When sailing in the Baltic and Atlantic in a charter boat, the boat is usually equipped with GPS. In these sailing trips I do Cel Nav and then compare with the GPS results. At home I do only balcony navigation, and the coordinates of my balcony which I read on the Internet have not changed in many years:-) Alex.
