John Karl gave us a list of topics covered in his book "Celestial Navigation in the GPS age", and I am most impressed. My order for a copy has just been placed. I had suspected, from the reference to "the GPS age" in the title, that it might have had a bias toward radio methods, but from its subject index, it really is, just as it says on the tin, all about celestial navigation. And from that list of topics, it really does seem to be a serious attempt to tackle the job properly. It's pleasing to see that lunars are included in the mix, which rarely get even a mention in such texts. The last one to do so, that I can recall, was John Letcher, all of 30 years ago. Of course the proof of the pudding will be in the complete text, not the topic list, and I will do my best to report on that back to this list. One curious omission from the topic list is any mention of time and timekeeping, a dimension that's deeply embedded into celestial navigation: hopefully it has been given its proper importance within, if not as a subject in itself. ==================== I will comment on another matter raised by John Karl under a new threadname.
