    Re: Cannot focus sextant telescopes

    David,

Comparing your telescopes with those on my early-1900s Hezzanith (which does not have binoculars and has some different telescopes), I can only take a guess.  Looking at D, either that is a non-magnifying sight tube or a focusable telescope.  If looking through it indicates it is the latter, then try pulling the lens out of the body (the part with the "ring" that attaches to the sextant).  The tube that the lens is attached to may just have a tight fit in the body.  (The lens should be able to be unscrewed from the tube and possibly replaced with a lens of different magnification, perhaps E.)  If this works, then it is possible that C also slides into the body of D.

A and B do not seem to have a removable (unscrewable) lens like C or D, and they don't seem to have the ridge formed by the removable lens (like C and D) which would allow you to grab and pull to focus.  I don't have a guess about them.

    Not a clue about F.

Maybe Ridge White will see your message and be able to answer everything.

    Stan

Subject: [NavList] Cannot focus sextant telescopes

I cannot get my sextant telescopes to focus.  I have attached a photo of the telescopes and fittings.
In particular I am puzzled by the lens labelled F. It has male threads on both sides. The threads are of different diameters. Despite trying every possible combination I cannot work out how it is meant to be used. I am wondering I am missing a tube with a female thread at one end, although there aren't any empty slots in the case.
Any help with a Sextant Telescopes 101 would be appreciated.
