Luc, thank you so much for your detailed reply, the picture, and for the reference document you included a link to. I am especially appreciative of your synopsis of the BSH document as I do not speak any German.
Looks like my sextant was inspected in 1978. I would imagine that is the date of manufacture as well... I reached out to Cassens & Plath with my serial number to see if they have any paperwork to go with the sextant as I did not receive any with it.
