Do you remember the 1960's TV series called "The Prisoner" starring Patrick McGoohan? ("I am not a number- I am a free man").
The 2nd episode, Chimes of Big Ben, also had a never aired alternate episode where Number 6 works on making a triquetrum. I do remember the lines, vaquely, "if I knew where I was sailing from I could tell when I was sailing to....by boat". I think that's how it was.
