Byron: I re the INSTRUCTIONS for the set up to make it easy, I hope for anyone to work the the 2 Minute STAR FINDER. It's a traning AID, for Celectial, but also a easy STAR FINDER for the KIDS 5th grade up, to be interested in the SKY.
I am trying to make SIMPLE a Complicated subject. I want feedback.
1. Set the HORIZON DISK on the BASE.
a. Select the closes LATITUDE (LAT) to your known LAT.
Example 41N 71W use 45 and push pin at 41.
b. Rotate the 180 line to 75W Longitude (LONG) (this is your LAT&LONG.
c. Observe your overhead + and your horizon with bearing 00 to 360 and horizon at 0 degrees to the+ at 90 ALITUDE. (ALT).
2. Place the STAR DISK on the center Post over the horizon Disk.
a. Select desired Month and Day on the outer RIM of the Base Disk.
b. Observe the GMT at that place on the Base Disk.
Example: JULY 12th=GMT 07:24. Note JULY plus 12 degrees +12 days.
That same place on the Disk is 07 +6 degrees in time. Each degree of time is 4 minutes, 6x4=24 minutes.
c. Write the time on a paper 07:24.
3. Determine the GMT for that day you want to observe your sky.
a. this is normally After Sunset or before Sunrise for stars and planets
.Example: 23:15 or anytime.
b. Write that observed time on the paper.
. Add the two time together 07:24 +23:15=30:39. Only 24:00 in a day, = 06:39.
4. Rotate the ARIES pointer to the time 06:39, this is the placement of the star in you sky.
5. Read from the Horizon WEB/SKY and write.
a. Spica 190/35. Regulus 257/32. Vega 067/3 9
b. Any star or planet of interest. in your sky for GMT 23:15.
6. If desired move y our sky one degree for every 4 minutes to observe the movement of the sky bodies.
7. If you want to move the sky to a new position, and find the GMT.
of the new time.
