It these differences are uncorrected then it could show up as lots of other characters. The reason that most people can see it in email is due to HTML mail. We can each type in the � character however we want and under the hood in the HTML it becomes ° (I wonder if you will see ampersand deg; or if you will see a degree symbol when it is posted?) Our web browsers then translate the HTML sequence back into a � properly when we read the emails using HTML mail.
