    Thanks for the link to the ethos web site. I  had no trouble registering, locating Cotter's thesis, downloading it and opening the pdf. It was all over in a matter of minutes. Ethos reminds me of what the internet is (or should be) all about -  none of the FB, twitter or advertising nonsense (IMHO).

    I have decided not to bid on the simex sextant and instead  add to my book collection. My vernier sextant allows me to prove to myself that CN really works!!!  For the past few weeks there have been two copies of 1618 in my Abe Books cart - one the UK original and the other the US copy (copied with permission). Maybe I should click on Buy Now and patiently wait a few months for them to arrive.
