We had perfect weather here to view the transit of Venus. I couldn't see anything with eclipse glasses and the naked eye, nor did the 4X magnification of my sextant reveal it. I tried just the sextant telescope with a sun shade slipped onto the eyepiece , but that didn't dim the sun enough to see any detail. But I could get a really good view with 10X20 binoculars and eclipse glasses. It was hard to get the sun in the field of view, but once there, it was easy to hold. At 10X, the sun almost fills the field of view, so they're perfect for viewing eclipses as well.
