    Brian,

    Older editions of Bowditch & Norie, as well as some of the lesser lights, contain all of the necessary trig tables for calculating and clearing the lunar distance some of which are conveniently arranged to suit the navigator's purposes. The cosine-haversine formula may be employed to clear the lunar distance in the so called "long form" trigonometrical method and I append hereto a format employed by me which should demonstrate the trig functions involved. I also append a more technical dissertation which may be of interest to you. Good luck.
