    As I said, my 45 yo Silva Ranger TD has worked fine around the world. 45
    years ago the Ranger TD model was the very top of the Silva range, nowadays
    it is in the middle, tending towards the bottom of the range.
    
    Maybe the Suunto design is a breakthrough, I don't know. Certainly my
    impression is that other approaches to a global needle have relied upon a
    needle slung low below the pivot point, and riding on a superior bearing.
