For a navigational day I will do the following: Precalculate Sunrise and Twilight, calculate moonrise/set if applicable. precalcuate the six stars from HO 249 Vol 1 (I can see the planets and moon so don't bother including those) Shoot a round of AM stars Shoot an amplitude if available AM sunlines (every hour if possible) crossed with moonlines and/or daylight planet fixes get an AM azimuth LAN usually crossed with one or more Sun lines advanced/retarded to 1200L. Determine day's run with noon to noon via mercator sailing. PM sunlines crossed with LAN advanced and/or PM sunlines PM azimuth precalculate sunset and PM twilight precalculate PM stars (same rules as AM stars) shoot PM stars and PM amplitude if possible If you want to get daring, shooting a lunar in there is always good.
