Jean-Philippe, > Just spray a little WD40 inside the enclosed worm after > each cruise and you'll never have any issue You mean though the gap between the arc and the worm enclosure? How can you sprey anything through such a small gap? > As for sand and dust in a desert region, > I don't think it (nor any other marine sextant btw) was designed for > this very specific use. Of course. But with an open worm you see the dirt on it, and with a closed one you dont. For example my last horizon alt oservation was on a sand beach. And I worried, about this sand, though we observed with Bill's Astra. > I also own a SNO-M but it's less accurate > than the SNO-T and also far less confortable to handle. Yes, all Russian manuals and text books mention that SNO-M is less accurate, > The thumb rest > featured on the back of the SNO-T is really ergonomic I agree. Do you know by chance what is the rectangular cavity in the back of the handle for? Just to decrease its weight? I thought, perhaps they planned some electric illumination attachment? The magnifier is great, but luminiscent illumination is too weak for twilights. One can use it, of course, for a little notepad to record the observations. One can make one, even with a pencil holder. Alex.
