Geoffry, > Around five to ten years ago, Poljot marine chronometers were selling > at US$950 or there abouts This is a high estimate; about 5 years ago I bought my Polet chronometer for about 600 (+100 shipping), and I remember there were many to choose in this price range. Almost every week, 1 or 2 new ones were listed. Today my seller is out of business, and another strange thing happens: what looks like a Russian seller, with a Russian name and Russian stuff, turns out to be a shop in India:-) So I can say that a Russian chronometer was a reasonable investment. I regrett that I did not buy a couple of those deck watches when they were $300:-) It is the same Polet brand but looks like a big pocket watch and has no winding indicator. I am not a watch specialist; perhaps this is what Bill Morris refers to as a "kitchen clock looking like a chronometer" which he saw on the bridge of a Russian ship when he traveled Auckland to Oakland:-) Alex.
