Dear Navs, Most of my navigation is done visually. I have been sailing the Ijsselmeer (an inner lake in Holland) before I could walk so I usually 'smell' were I am. Occasionally I do some basic coastal navigation using a handbearing compass. When in bad visibility I tend to 'vector' based on compass bearing and log and then compare that to my handheld GPS. I'm usually not too far off. I have a chart table I can stand at with two GPS, Radar and paper chart having discarded electronic charts (I write software for a living and I just don't trust them). Doug uses a formula I find intriguing. Can anybody elaborate on the parameters? Or point me in the right direction? Steven, thanks for telling me your training. In future conversations I now have a baseline and know how to frame my questions or discussions with you.By the way, thanks for the work you did on the Lunar files.I hope to make some use of them. Jared and Dave,I'll get the brand name of the LED nav. lights when I get to the yard this week to work on the skiff and post that info.
