Daytime Sirius using Whole Horizon Mirror
    From: Greg Rudzinski
    Date: 2011 Apr 27, 11:00 -0700

Just before sunset yesterday I was able to take 10 observations of Sirius ( 5 using a 7x35mm scope with split horizon mirror followed by 5 using a 4x40mm scope with a whole horizon mirror). The results were very consistent between the two very different setups.

The purpose of this challenge between sextant scopes and horizon mirrors was primarily to see if it was possible to observe a star during the day using a whole horizon mirror. I have already in prior years observed Sirius during the day just before sunset using a split mirror horizon and a 7x35mm scope so the first five observations were to verify this and give the whole horizon a fair chance by having an accurate preset of the sextant and an azimuth.

See link for work sheet data and image of the dueling sextants.
