    Declination problems
    From: Samuel L
    Date: 2014 Sep 12, 17:11 -0700

I made two Sun sights today (9/12/2014) at 18:29:31 UTC and one at 18:30:40 UTC . I did the sight reduction using the Nautical Almanac found at Navsoft. The Declination for 18:00 UTC was listed as 4 d 00.0 minutes.

    The USNO lists the

The resulting LHA for both sights was 23d.

The resulting Hc's were both 47d 38 minutes. The "d" correction was 0.

The same Hc for both sights isn't what I would have expected to happen.

    Did I do something wrong?

As a side note- the Intercepts were rather strange as an AH was used both times- once inside the cab of my truck while I took the sight from the truck bed. The 2nd sight was taken with the AH in the bed of the truck and probably suffered some of the wind ripple effect. Mineral oil is inferior to used Diesel motor oil. When I averaged both sight Intercept figures the resulting line passed right through the GPS determined location and met perfectly with a Noon sight I did yesterday.

Any opinion or suggestions concerning the Declination and Hc situation previously mentioned?

    Sam
