"I wonder if anyone can tell me if a digitised copy, for downloading, is available of the following book- " Yes, but. Mayer's "Tabulae motuum solis..." is available for download, but it is included in a proprietary data base. The description below is from Gale's web site: "Gale's Eighteenth Century Collections Online (ECCO) is a hugely impressive digitisation project covering almost all of the significant works from the eighteenth century printed in the UK - 150,000 titles in all. Gale has converted its microfilm collection, The Eighteenth Century Collection, filmed from the holdings of the British Library and a number of other major UK and US research libraries, into 33 million images of original pages which can be viewed and searched via a web-based platform. The digitisation process has been conducted primarily by teams of indexers and metadata creators in India and Farmington, Michigan, working at a rate of 300,000 pages per week. Gale has refined its digitisation processes through The Times Digital Archive project covering 200 years of The Times newspaper, which is now near completion. To date 15% of the eventual ECCO database has been completed and launched, covering History and Geography." I have to admit, what they say is true, it's a very impressive resource. In the US (well at least in Virginia) we have some fine state universities that subscribe to this service. The libraries on campus at some these universities are open to the public and provide on site access to the database. I have found this to be a good source for many navigation related texts. The following 11 by Maskelyne and 3 by Mayer are included. Maskelyne, Nevil, Astronomer Royal. A proposal for measuring the attraction of some hill in this Kingdom by astronomical observations.
